Lord of Workington, in Coupland, co. Cumberland. Thomas, son of Gospatric
was a "munificent benefactor of religious houses." He was a founder of Shap,
and also made grants to Byland, Calder, Holmcultram, and St. Bees as well as
to Furness Abbey. He is frequently mentioned in the charters of St. Bees.
He was employed in the King's business, 13 November 1200, but died soon after
that date, when Grace, his widow, and Roger de Beauchamp were married.
